So Busy... So Pissed... Still Blessed

Greetings, my People! My time is limited but my blog is not. I try to give you a piece of my life to enjoy because there are too many things that keep us down-trodden, sad, disgruntled and feeling helpless. Murdering young black men and women seems to be the more common practice with our black president in office. Don't get me wrong, I voted for Obama, twice. But at some point in time, I thought he'd address police brutality because it's not new to AmeriKKKa.

This was Harlem 50 Years ago! Still?

The Spike Lee joint, "Do The Right Thing" came out 25 years ago. I never thought I'd see a video of a man being murdered by police using an illegal choke hold, similarly depicted in the movie made a quarter of a century ago. Eric Garner was my cousin's husband. It still feels weird to know I knew someone killed by the police. Anthony Baez's mother is in mourning all over again. Her son was killed by a policeman's illegal choke hold because her son's football hit the cop's car. That was 1994.

When does the disrespect for black and brown lives end? When do you realize this a race issue? It's not just white racist cops, it's white racist people. Then you have mass murderers that you jail, feed, clothe and bathe while families are ripped apart with no restitution, no assistance and no compensation for that lifelong loss by these murderers...

Change gone come and it won't be pretty, but it will be televised, YouTubed, Vimeoed, cellphone recorded, iPadded, Tablet-taped, Soundclouded and subsequently, lied about on CNN and FOX news.

THEY'RE NOT SLICK, EITHER!!!

I thought in 8 years, President Obama would speak out and implement something close to reparations, race relations programs and making sure AmeriKKKa takes care of it's own (as well as those they don't claim). I could've swore he said no more troops were going overseas to fight?  I'm not sure what he's doing now and he's so caught up with making sure Israel is protected and financially fit that AmeriKKKan citizens are being murdered by those we thought were here to protect and serve us.

Not to mention, AmeriKKKan cities are suffering, both, financially and at the hands of racists savages, who have not only a God complex but a superiority complex. I'm still waiting for mental health, gun control, keeping libraries and fire stations open and homelessness to be fully addressed. By the way, don't Chicago and Detroit need immediate assistance? Isn't he from one of those cities?

Just to clarify: I have several white friends and they, along with the white folks sympathetic to and active for the eradication of the injustices we've witnessed in the past few months, are NOT who I'm talking to.

I'm talking to the racists - the white folks who don't believe the Bible was based in Africa or that it depicts African (black and brown-skinned) people as Prophets. I'm talking to the racists who don't believe Africans built AmeriKKKa and the ones who want to ignore and erase slavery from books, thus erasing the very savage practice of it. (Don't try to hide your savage ways, now... The Most High and Karma are still watching...)

Your ancestors performed atrocities I wouldn't wish on any human. The greatest true Holocaust lasted almost 4 centuries and no one has remedied that debt as far as monies owed, land returned or psychological and emotional healing. I'm not even touching the plight of the Native indigenous peoples of AmeriKKKa by the white man.

And please DO NOT equate in any way that black on black crime is inherent or similar to white police or citizens killing black youth. All murder is a crime. Black on black crime needs to be discussed, investigated and stopped by black folk, period, in our own backyard. No authority of any other color should be dealing with that and we don't need anyone interfering with our resolution, whatever it may be. No media coverage, no racist reporters giving their opinion on our progress. Their last opinion of our progress resulted in Rosewood and Black Wall Street.

Police brutality is needless hurting, injuring and killing of youth of color by racist cops. They have no reason to feel mental anguish or spiritual discomfort for taking that particular young life, knowing their badge and blue uniformed bullies have their financial and moral support. The police are the lawless gang in the streets, now. Be careful, people!!!

Bastards like this one need to be fired with no pension!

I think the truth about Africa scares most non-melanated people. I won't build on that because it goes into something much deeper - PROVEN TRUTH. Many things we learn as students in schools are straight lies, formulated by the big book publishers, who don't look like me. The savagery, lynchings, castrations and abuse throughout the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade is documented, yet people want our future generations to believe that being a butler and a maid were jobs we chose in lieu of living on a plantation, rent free. GTFOH! Everybody wasn't a House Ni***! C'mon, Son! I can't write too much because I'm getting angry, again...

If there's anyone who has a suggestion or solution about race relations, eliminating dirty cops, nullifying this gentrification/Marshall law bullshit, building the black and brown communities economically, spiritually, intellectually, and or financially, shout me here or at: yejide7@gmail.com. I'm open to all suggestions, round tables and potential solutions. Only we can do for us when we're surrounded by racists...

I'm Greatful (yes, full of greatness) for my health, my intelligence, my family, my talents, my spirit and it hurts me to my core when I see what's happening all around me. I know I need to contribute my yin energy to the worldwide epidemic of confusion, ignorance, racism, ageism and sexism. Just my $.77. Let me know if you want more... I'm here! I'm ready to work!

On a happier but still sad note, Sutra Lounge will have its final party on September 10, 2014. The regularly scheduled party on Tuesdays found a new home, so for the month of August, Sutra will be free every Tuesday with Beatminerz Radio DJs Evil Dee and Finsta. August 5th... TONIGHT IS THE LAST TUESDAY, FREE!

ARIEL AND EVIL DEE

I personally want to thank Ariel for giving us Sutra and running it like a 'home' spot and not a VIP/Bottle Service/Mandatory Dress Code spot. It was always comfortable and inviting. And thank you to Da Beatminerz for being at the DJ helm at almost all the parties I've enjoyed there, even when it was Bar XVI... I will miss this unique combination and I know I'm not alone. This is the end of an iconic era of NYC nightlife. Peace and Love!

QUESTIONS? I HAD SOME. THEY WERE ANSWERED.
I'M GOOD. I STILL LOVE MY VINYL!

August 8th I attended Resonance, the new Friday night party at The Karaoke Spot on West 32nd St.

I caught DJ Disciple. He's still smashing parties! I had to get a pic with DJ Rubi R-Tres because she murders the turntables as well and that's my girl! Peace, Sis!

I kinda didn't sleep much, so I did laundry and cooked. That's right, it's Saturday. DJ Sylk is at Frank's tonight. Why not?

DJ SYLK ROCKIN OUT AT FRANK'S!

I get to Frank's and there are ladies dancing, grinding and gyrating on the stage next to Sylk. I was done! LOL I kindly took my new regular seat on the stage in the opposite corner and chilled, watching the antics... Me and Sylk laughed all night, as usual...

ME WITH NO DRINKS, NO SMOKES AND NO SLEEP
JUST JOYOUS AND AROUND GOOD PEOPLE.
I'M TRYING TO BE LIKE THIS ON THE REGULAR, FEEL ME?

BRIAN 'FOOTWORK' GREEN AND B. POLITE

When was the last time you saw Brian "Footwork" Green and B. Polite chillin in Fort Green Park? Take your time, I'll wait... Exactly! Classic shot with the upcoming Chaka Khan party flyer.

After we finally began to disperse out of Fort Green Park, my man, DJ C-Boogie put me on to a loft/house party he was DJing at. No problem! I was on my bike. Thia and I were off to the loft...

This was the full moon view from the rooftop of the loft party,
equipped with a beautiful rooftop garden and scents of sensiimilla.

Downstairs were appetizers, drinks and an awesome band called Red Sahara. The lead singer has a beautifully tuned voice giving me Karen Carpenter one minute and Cassandra Wilson the next.

She's a rare jewel. Her band was no less. They gave me chills like Survival Soundz used to at Thoughtforms Underground, back in the 90's. They were dope! I was glad I came. Then DJ C-Boogie got on the CDJs and brought in the sexy. I had a great time. Thank you very much, Calvin.

DJ EVIL DEE AND FINSTA... THE TRANSITION

LUCK AND KIMMY CRACKIN UP!

There were entirely too many jokes made this particular night. I still got money on the table for you, Kimmy! Luck has to do his part!!!

EVIL DEE ON THE WHEELS WITH FINSTA ON THE MIC... AWWW DAYUM...
HE WAS SINGING!

THE LOVELY SISTER, BLACK LILY, CAME THROUGH

GO HEAD, JAMAL!

My brother Jamal came through and was dancing his ass off. I did NOT know he boogied like that. He should come out more often, for real!

Friday, 8-15-14, I was blessed to see my Grand-babies perform at Restoration, under the tent, for the closing ceremony of The Cyber Camp. The Cyber Camp has been in Brooklyn for years, educating our youth from just walking to young adults, building computers, social networking, computer basics, with nutritious breakfast, lunches and snacks, field trips, and reading, making it fun and exciting for our children to learn and want to learn.

After The Cyber Camp's showcase was over, I was leaving and noticed I heard music playing near Applebee's. DJ Sabine Blaizin was spinning from a 2nd floor window and heads were getting their spins on. I saw my friend and old dance partner, Mrk Drkfthr, getting it in. He grabbed me to the stage, I fronted but got up there, knee braces and all and danced with him for a few... Some brother took dope footage of us dancing and played it back for us in slow motion. I loved it. I need to find that brother...

After the dancing and seeing B. Polite, Nina, Alyson, and Lioness, I ran into Stacey Muhammad, writer and director of "For Colored Boys: Redemption". So good to see her and talk. The series is DOPE! I was fortunate to be at the right place and time to burn a pot or two for the cast and crew. Thank you, again, Cynical!

Stacey was showing a 30-minute clip of FCB at Restoration, so I stayed. It needs to be seen on a big screen, not my laptop! I got my FCB tee, a big hug from Stacey and I let her know if she needs me to cook again, I'd be honored. Me and Lioness broke out, brought some Jamaican plates of goodness and proceeded to eat, chill and catch up! Been too long, Sis...

DJ SYLK ROCKIN OUT!

Came through to Frank's to check my brother, DJ Sylk get it in. My sister, Soulflower, met me there and we jammed to the sounds of Sylk downstairs and we enjoyed DJ Pinky Tuscadero upstairs, playing House. Again, Happy Healthy Birthday, Shameeka!!! My men, Fred and Craig came through, too. Between them and Sylk, my drinks were flowing all night. And my cab was free! LOL

MY VIEW WHEN I EXITED THE CAB - HOME! GLORIOUS DAY AHEAD...

Monday, I spent a good portion of my day here...

Getting my lawyer/paralegal on... I needed to get out after this move, so I met my sisters at Cielo... So glad I went!

KRYSTINE * LEESAH * YEJIDE

LEESAH * JESSIE * ERIKO @ CIELO

We had fun dancing and catching up. Saw two sisters I haven't seen in a while. I thought it was great to see them out and chilling. They both had a problem with me and didn't say anything, so I talked to both of them. Hindsight is a mother phukka but don't let your hurt interpret your shit. Analyze yourself before you start acting funny-style to others, especially if you're not on point from the gate... #TripHerAndLetHerFallDown! LOL

I explained in an FB note years ago, if I have friends that're not cool, I hang with both separately, because 1) that's YOUR beef and; 2) I rock with individuals, not groups. I will continue to rock with you both, just separately. Because I get down like that, I will see who's true friend and underlying foe, soon enough. Karma catches everyone out there. I'll wait... Patience is a virtue.

Tuesday, Sutra was filled with love and connectivity. I must admit, there is a DJ etiquette when it comes to being in the DJ booth, talking to the DJ while he's working and taking photos and footage. If you don't know how to properly address these issues previously stated, ask me. I'll let you know what is and is NOT cool to do in the DJs space and around the DJ. First, hook him up with at least 2 drink tickets...

MIC HANDZ WITH DJ EVIL DEE AND MECCA!

ME AND MY MAN, MECCA...REAL DUDE!
I had every intention to go to one party on Thursday, but never made it. My Rasta family was in my neck of the woods and gave me a lift to the DL. They came in with me and chilled for a spell. They left but it was so good to see my brethren, content and successful. Peace Progression Patience and Power, Jolo and Honest! Give thanks and praise.

DJ BoogieBlind and DJ Natasha Diggs tore DL down.
Check my Instagram: themamawize...

DJ BOOGIEBLIND @ WORK!

DJS BOOGIEBLIND AND ERICL BEATS

They played dope funk and soul, Hip Hop and BoogieBlind played Rock Lobster! If you don't know what that is, that's cool. I loved it! When I heard, "Turn Down For What?" All I could see were my grandchildren dancing to it last week at Restoration. I wound up sitting down to laugh til I cried heartfelt tears! LMAO! To me, at that very moment, until the record went off, that crowd was a bunch of 2 to 6 year olds getting their break dance on. Turn down for what... smh.

DJ NATASHA DIGGS KILLIN THE DECKS!
I had a great night out! I was there alone knowing minimal people. It was a different type of party and I like that. The ladies stayed on the dance floor all night. Definitely a feel good party. I must go back, again.

Friday August 22nd, I got wind of my man, Touray, spinning at DBA. I heard of DBA but I've never been there. Since my cable and Internet been off, since Monday, why not check the spot out. It's in my hood, too...

I had no idea these brothers got down so hard with their musical selection. I heard a lot of great music... And they blend chune dem! Reggae, Hip Hop, Soul, etc. I was pleasantly surprised and I'll be back! DBA is the old Laila Lounge, for my WillyB heads!

DJ KO_B and DJ BREGGA @ DBA

HAPPY HEALTHY BLESSED BEARTH STRONG, DJ BREGGA!

BLOOD ORANGE PALE ALE

Why was there an 8-page list of beers at DBA? I had two and they were delicious. My burps didn't offend me and I didn't have to run to the bathroom every 20 minutes, like I do when I drink Heineken or Corona. Now I want to taste more beers!

Saturday I stayed local. My lil Sis, Taj from the ATL, came up to link with family and go to Afro Punk. We didn't make it Saturday but she was in good hands. Last minute Splittys run with DJs Mumma Lioness and Jah Beanz. Jigga Jewel came through too and we had a good time.

DJ MUMMA LIONESS AND JAH BEANZ

JIGGA JEWEL AND LIONESS

I saw my man, North from Division X while I was riding up Myrtle Ave to Splittys. Told him where I was going and voila!...

LIONESS AND NORTHSTAR

BACKYARD ANTICS A GWAN, IYAH!

THE MAMA WIZE AND MAMA LIONESS

I realized at 1:30am, I had confirmed my attendance at Bushwick Bizarre to catch DJs EMAN, Oskar Fuller and C-Boogie. Hopped on Thia and we were out to Bushwick from Clinton Hill. Straight ride down Myrtle Avenue. I love Brooklyn!

DJ C BOOGIE AND DJ OSKAR FULLER

SOULFLOWER AND DJ IRIE LA

I arrived home about 5am and ate a huge fruit salad I purchased in the 24 hour fruit stand at the intersection of Myrtle, Broadway and Jefferson St. So grateful!

Sunday comes and I'm up and about. I cooked this delicious meal for my house before I bounced. I do vegan dishes too!

Calls and texts started pouring in: You coming to this, Yej? You coming this way? You going to that? I was like, huh? When there's too much going on that I want to be a part of, I usually stay home because I can't make up my mind. So I got on Thia and took destinations one street at a time...

I rode straight to the MJ Tribute at Restoration. Question: with all the people that come out for this shower of Love for the King of Pop, why would Spike Lee have it at Restoration? We take up all the green in the big field at Prospect Park. I had a ball, though. On the way out, I run into my Afterlife DJ brothers...

DJ KIM LIGHTFOOT * MILES * DJ KALIM SHABAZZ

We walked down Fulton St, cracking jokes and laughing about everything. I found a spot that still sells singular Backwoods... The smoke shop right on the corner of Fulton and Nostrand. We parted ways at Fulton St and Bedford Ave.

MY VIEW TOWARDS THE NEXT DESTINATION...

They hoped in a cab to Afro Punk. I rode down Fulton St and stopped at Lox Lounge where Souljah Sundays was transported.

RED STRIPE AND MOSCATO...

DJ JAH BEANZ PON DE SET...

I chilled with Jah Beanz for a minute and officially met DJ Johnnie-GoFigure. I sipped my Moscato and jetted to Afro Punk after my phone charged. Off me and Thia go...

THIS IS MY THIA! PACIFIC 3000

I got to Afro Punk but my lil sis, Taj had already rocked there the entire day. She needed to be outta there. I stayed for D'Angelo and thank you Sis, for the ticket! I saw a long time soul who I've known and who's energy was always love, chillin with her girl... Great to see long ago faces...

KEITA AND STEPHANIE @ AFRO PUNK!

I saw ROCK reppin D4L to the fullest. Of course we both were rocking the royal color purple! #SDS

ROCKNESS!!! THE HAT IS OFFICIAL!

My man, Touray and his homie, Courtney were chillin, listening to D'Angelo in the area to the right of the stage, where they sold alcoholic beverages. Touray left to relieve himself and came back to be told, he can't come back in. I enjoyed D'Angelo's set but the politics inside were real wack. The black security dude said to us: "Listen! They don't want you here. They told us if anybody leaves, that's their final exit. You can't come back in even if you were in here ." I asked, "Did you tell him that when he left?" He said I'm just doing my job. They want you all out of the park and there's nothing I can do. Me and Courtney high-tailed it up outta that area. I said thanks, Brother. Do your job.

Now, I could've acted like a disgruntled chick and made a scene calling him all types of Uncle Toms but I don't know who sponsors and or who's staffing the event. It could be all black folks. D'Angelo got on stage late. Maybe they knew they needed to leave at a certain time and they had to vacate the best way possible. I didn't judge or belittle him. He was doing his job. I said it to him sarcastically, but it is what it is...

Monday, I got up late, due to the extra riding I did all weekend. Brooklyn is the fourth largest city in AmeriKKKa and I was all over it. My lil sis, Taj, went to see my brother in Greenpoint because she needed fresh ink. So I ride over to my brother Tommie's and we all enjoyed our time together.

DR. TAJ ANWAR AND TOMMIE FICO

I haven't chilled with either of them in a long time and it's always good to see my extended family. It's a plus when it's more than one person, too! And she came with groceries and made a delicious meal for us... All vegan!

I SAID ALL VEGAN!!

This last weekend was phukken awesome! Broke bread with family, saw good people that I haven't seen in a minute and I learned how to do my blog on my phone when my router is on the crack! I had a very educational and uplifting weekend!

Too bad I didn't get to vend at Afro Punk but I carried some merchandise with me.

LOC ORNAMENTS THAT DOUBLE AS A RINGS!

So many dope events coming up, I can't keep track. I can't front, some of them passed and I'm glad I got to witness the funk and fabulosity of them all...

LAST PARTY IS TONIGHT!!! 8-26-14 B THERE!!!

THE LIST OF DJS IS CRAZY!

I hope you enjoyed my long rant and updates. It could be so much longer, though. I want to hear from everybody regarding the suggestions and and solutions I mentioned in the beginning of this blog.
