It's About To GO Down!

I'm not sure if you remember my last post but I put up enough flyers for you to be confused as to where you were going to party... I apologize, but I like to have variety when I plan my outings. There were great parties, concerts and family cyphers this past few weeks and I will try my best to give you a glimpse. You know the drill: You had to be there...

April 25th, 2014, I landed at Tampa International Airport around 7pm to find my mother looking for me, dressed in purple! \0/

When I reached her home, she let me know another one of her poems was published...
My niece, Raven and her big brother, Chris came to see me. So sorry I couldn't see the rest of my family. My Umi and I had a great steak and baked potato dinner with salad and lots of catching up to do. I still miss those wonderful meals we made together when she lived in Brooklyn. That's why it was so important for me to see her when I'm in the state, regardless of where in Florida. I'm striving to look as great as she does at 80! I love my Mother Forever!

April 26th, one of my 6 older sister's, Robin and my big brother, Jay, (the one who taught me how to mix, blend and scratch in 1980), drove me back to Tampa Airport to meet up with DJ Chin, who was coming to pick up Mr. Bito and DJ Evil Dee and take us all back to the Holiday Inn Express in Brookesville, Florida. The ride was cool.

Lickashot met up with us and we chilled til it was time to go to the Pool Party. When we arrived, we expected the pool to be private, with no children and drinks a-pouring... Uh uh! It wasn't just BMZ Radio Fam, there were many children and there was no liquor. Hmmm... But BeatMonerz Radio DJs provided the soundtrack for the day! AWESOME! And great people, like Tameka, picked up some treats for the soiree! Thank you!

We danced, ate, had fun and enjoyed the
sounds of DJ Lickashot and DJ RedBoy!!!

After the packing up, cleaning up and figuring out who could carry what, we all left to our hotel rooms... so we thought. We all wound up at the smaller pool behind the Holiday Inn Express hotel getting our drinks and smokes on and chilling until the next adventure.

Eventually the drinking took it's toll on some and they went to bed. The others went to Orbitz 19 Lounge around 11:30pm and had a good time. The last spot where you can smoke, freely, inside. DJ Fader and Crazy DJ Bazarro played some classics!

On the way back to the Holiday Inn, me, Lickashot, Chin and Bazarro got some food from Wawa. It was my first time there and I must say, if NYC had that caliber of food and variety in their 24-hour bodegas, the bodegas would be so paid! Thank you DJ Chin for the lift and the pit stop!

The next morning, we got up bright and early to go record shopping: DJ Lickashot, DJ Bazarro, DJ Evil Dee, DJ Chin, DJ G-Rock and myself. Mr. Bito was going for the ride. DJ G-Rock had another vehicle, so we all got in his ride, except Evil, Baz and Chin. We were all going to Bananaz for the $.10 45's, but Evil, Baz and Chin had to go to an in-store and planned to meet us at Bananaz. The in-store took more time than we thought and they didn't make it to the record store. Between me, Lickashot and G-Rock, we purchased 705 45s from Bananaz. Whew!

DJ G-Rock had a live-streaming radio show from 6pm-8pm and DJ Lickashot was his guest. So of course, since Mr. Bito, MzJonez and I were riding with them, we got to chill with them and G-Rock's wife, Jackie, in their house. (BeautifulHouse and BeautifulChildren, btw!) Between the music being played, the dancing going on, the jokes being cracked and the liquor pouring, we had a ball! We still had to go to Crowbar tonight to hear Evil Dee and Bazarro rock!

Cheers, My People... Two times!
Crowbar was off the chain... just like I remember it! Great vibes and better people! Salute to the BeatMinerz Radio chatroom that made it to Crowbar for Old Dirty Sundays! It was unforgettable!

After the party, Mr. Bito, Lickashot and I chilled out in DJ Evil Dee's room since we had early morning flights out. I showered and got dressed for my interview. When we arrived at the airport super early, I found out there were no earlier flights to get me to my interview on time. I should have done my homework!  Like a dummy, I never checked to see if there was an earlier flight. I just figured I'd go early and pay whatever extra charge was required. Not cool... So I'm waiting for the next hiring pool to be called.

AT TAMPA AIRPORT
In the meantime, I have my hands in so many baskets of goodness, this just gives me time to get my personal and business calendars in order. I'm setting 'lifelines', as opposed to deadlines, for all the things I must complete this year and it's looking good, so far. So I return home Monday morning, only to be annoyed by having to go to court regarding non-payment of rent, Tuesday morning.

Before I left for Florida, I wrote a comprehensive letter to my landlord, their lawyers and various agencies having to do with code violations, Mitchell-Lama laws and court procedure, to stop harassing me about rent they've received. Basically, it states that they haven't fixed things in my apartment that are their responsibility and I currently have my rent receipts for all months in question. Just another ploy by my landlord to evict me so they can raise the rent 200% on my 3-bedroom, 1.5 bathroom, corner apartment. I've been here 36 years and I have no intention of leaving voluntarily and especially not by force based on lies. The case was dismissed because after all the foolishness, paperwork and court procedure followed, these clowns didn't show up at court.

I got my MRI's back for my left knee on Thursday and it seems that my meniscus tear and ACL tear have gotten bigger. I feel better and I'm wondering if this is a plot for me to go to surgery so everyone involved can get more money. Going to the gym has made me stronger and has made me feel better walking and riding. My physical therapist says come in a few  more times, but their purpose is to make sure I function with ease. Since I'm doing that they feel no reason for me to keep coming to them. Someone is actually looking out for my best interests. I agreed. So two more visits to the therapist and if I'm fine, I'll have to seriously disregard the findings of my latest MRI.

May 2nd, Me and my friend, Fred, visited my cousin David's house for his surprise birthday party. It was beautiful! His Queen, Orlantha, cooked food for an army and invited his family and old friends over. We had a great time watching the game, cracking jokes and reminiscing on old times in Wycoff Projects, Gowanus Projects and rhyming. I must keep in touch with my family more.

May 3rd, I invited some sisters over because I kept hearing about their love affairs and situation-ships that are not as good as they'd like or they were straight complaining about their significant others. I chose to open my doors to have a cypher for us, as women, to talk, vent, assist and comfort one another in hopes that our perceptions of what a relationship is, would be a better, more understanding entity. I made a mountain of food because 14 sisters confirmed. I must say everyone was gung ho about it and they told me what they were bringing, but when 3pm came up on Saturday... I heard the crickets...

Thank you Nya and Darcel for coming through and making the magic happen. We covered a lot of ground and I can only say to the ladies that didn't come: You missed a great evening of food, conversation, reasoning and inspiration. And thank you to the ladies that called to let me know they couldn't make it. Common courtesy goes a long way...

May 6th, I attended Da Gully Show Live 2 at Hunter College! It was dope. There were many talented MCs rocking and we ran overtime but it was a great show! Thank you Gully Team and BeatMinerz Radio for making it happen and keeping us entertained!

When the show ended I wanted to do something else... So I went to Sutra for Toca Tuesdays. I got there early and had a nice conversation about NYC night life with Lyn, the girl at the door. She's such a sweetie. I enjoyed DJ June spinning the classic RandB. She had me singing and two-stepping! DJ Butta L had the Reggae vibes bubbling downstairs. My brother, C-Rayz Walz came through to shoot a video and did so in the back of Sutra. Jean Grae and Fernanda came through, chillin. (I WILL do better with my attendance, Jean!)

Ariel was doing fine and looking great, as usual. I met, Moses and he's a pleasure to talk to. I left the venue with my nephew, Concep. Always good to see family and I was doing it all night.

I've been keeping it local because I have a lot of administrative work to finish, writing has to be done and personal achievement means focus and immobility. I'm on it! I know what I have to do and as I said, I created lifelines. As long as I follow the path I've created, I should be good. But there is ONE thing missing from my life and the lack of it makes me irritable, impatient and downright irrational. I NEED TO DANCE!
LIVE TRUE! DANCE FREE!

Dancing releases the toxins from my soul. Dancing clears my mind and strengthens my body. I can cry and be happy about my father's ascension. I can mourn past loves while dancing like an innocent child. Dancing is like an orgasm and when I find the right DJ, with the right sound system in the right wood-floor area, I can literally orgasm all night.

I'm Just Saying...

I've been a little snappy to someone I love. He knows why and  he understands but I can't afford to lose him because of my hang ups. I have a history of letting things roll off my shoulder but lately, I've been thinking too much. , because shit was perched on my shoulder. I learned how to keep my stress, less. So I will go back to what I was doing before... DANCING! And while I'm not dancing, I'll get my attitude and good nature back in order.

On another note, I've been getting calls and texts from past loves. (Let's me know Spring is here or arriving shortly.) Springtime brings back ill dudes with wack conversation, after you reject their corny invitations to rekindle flames that have been put out long ago. I let them bombard me with their talk, harping on past bullshit, and past reasons why we aren't together. Are you kidding me? The reasons why were in the past. I moved on. I usually internalize stress but I was told I need to release it or my health would suffer. My stress relievers: Dancing and avoiding ridiculous conversation.

Yesterday, I made a batch of Cinnamon Cocoa Buttah!

I'm actually on my way to my nephew's girlfriend's Baby Shower in Manhattan. Mother's Day is tomorrow and I can't thank my mother the way she deserves to be blessed. She raised 8 children and had her hand in the rearing of her 20 grand children and 34 great- grand children. She's an amazing woman who has worked for the city, has two college degrees and still writes through her publishing company. If I can be half the woman she is, I'll be the Greatest!
I LOVE YOU MOMY!!!

And I can't think of a better way for me to celebrate than dancing for 6 hours in honor of Larry Levan on King St.
