ONWARD MARCH...

Peace and Love, My People!

Life has so many ups and downs, that you must concentrate on accentuating the positives, eliminating the negatives and analytically and critically thinking about those elements in between. We only have one life to live and one body to live it in. I say, lets be healthy, happy, aware of our energy and intelligent enough to know how to do it all, without hurting others. That's where I've been and I hope you can join me, if you're not there, yet. I'm covering a few things, lightly, in this blog because I've been approached and asked about certain things. But this I believe...

I need everyone to STOP getting worked up over Instagram, Facebook, Myspace and all the other social network entities that leave you thinking the wrong things. I've witnessed romantic relationships and good friendships go down the toilet just off of Myspace alone, around 2005. When you put your life on display, you get what you put out... whether you're lying or not. There are people who don't like your happiness because they're miserable. Misery loves company. I do too but I know how to treat my company so they come back.

Telling everyone who you love and how much you love them is dope when you both profess that love. Friends shouldn't put business or beef online, if they really want to work through the problems and keep the friendship. And you tricky bitches (men and women) who like to forward messages and edit before sending are a step away from karma slapping you dead in the mouth, as if you spoke out of pocket. I suggest you be careful with what you post and no matter how much it makes sense, think about how it applies to you. I'm not afraid to share on the Internet but certain things I do keep to myself. I am who I am because of what I do, not because someone's post told me I am. You see what I post, online.

And when you do find something that you don't believe or have questions about, try not to work off of hearsay and rumors, in entertainment or real life. Unless you know all the facts, you should ask, listen and observe. It will keep your head and heart from breaking as well as you not beating yourself up or getting beat up for your stupidity in a particular situation. I don't mean go into your significant others phone and look for stuff, (for you shall find something when searching). I mean think before you act and ask before you assume. If you need to search that hard, and your trust issues and insecurities get the best of you, you may not be ready for a relationship.

My mother is a strong believer in research. Here's the LINK of my mother on WFLA.com for Tampa's 23rd annual Black Heritage Day, on February 24th, where she read her poetry. I'm so proud of her. She's my inspiration and motivation as an orator.

I spent my Wednesday at Beatminerz Radio but I try not to come empty handed. So you know how me and my fruit roll out...

I always bring product with me to the studio and this Wednesday was no different. I appreciate BMZ Family recognizing my work. Napoleon Da Legend said my Aloe Shea Essential Oil Buttah felt and smelled great. Thank you, Napoleon and Evil Dee. He agreed.

The next day, my girl, Sonja Blaze, invited me to dinner and she cooked me up a great meal, including a juicy and tender cornish game hen. I was so busy eating, I didn't take a pic. You all know I take flix of great looking meals. She was NOT playing. I owe you, Sis! Anything but pork... I gotchu!

My grandsun, Johari, turned 7 years old on February 28th and I couldn't be a more proud grandmother. He's so intelligent. He reads at a 4th grade level and his conversation is of a 13 year old. I love the fact that I birthed his mother and she is doing an excellent job of raising and teaching him to be a smart and respectful young man. Happy healthy blessed birthday to my 1st grand baby, Johari Ajani. Glam Mama loves you!

Later that night, I went to Tainted Love at The Lox Lounge for their 2 year anniversary. It was cool. The DJs kicked ass, too.

When I returned from Tainted Love, I received a text from my homegirl, At Peace. She had a lil trouble with transportation and wanted to see me before she broke out. She came through in the morning and we had a great time catching up and building. I miss her and I was so glad to see her. What a lovely surprise from my lovely sister. Kiss my nephews and nieces, girl. Love You, Makita!

The month of March started with me worrying about my landlord and their constant harassment. We went to court in January because they cried about 3 months rent they didn't receive from me. They took 3 months to return my kitchen sink to my house after revealing the years of mold behind my kitchen cabinets and sink, caused by a leak they never fixed years prior. I had a car accident on July 22, 2013 and I couldn't really clean dishes in my bath tub with back and knee injuries, but I had no choice. As a Muslim, it is haram (forbidden) to bring food in the bathroom, but Allah is always watching and I'm sure I'm not going to hell, because of the circumstances. My grandchildren were 5 years old and 5 months old at the time. I had to take the management company of my co-op to court 3 times to get a sink re-installed in my kitchen.  They finally cornered me into paying part of the rent they missed out on. After I paid it, they still are insistent on my eviction. I've held my apartment down since 1997. I was raised in this apartment since 1978 and I raised my children and grandchildren here. I'm NOT going ANYWHERE!

But there are always highpoints amongst the low lifes... On March 2nd, my longtime friend, Kat, started her show, THE MOVEMENT on Neva Say Neva Radio. She conducts a real talk radio show with her team and her son, Isaiah, for an extended outlook on topics. You can call in to ask or answer questions posed on the air. I was there for the premiere at Bushwick Radio headquarters and I see this as a great addition to online radio. I'll be back!

I THOUGHT IT WAS DOPE THAT WE ALL HAD ORANGE ON TODAY

March 3rd... Happy healthy blessed birthday shout out to my oldest friend in the world! My girl that I started technical training in Ballet, Modern Tap and Jazz with at Fournier - Grego Performing Arts Center at 44 Court St downtown Brooklyn in the late 70's. We went to Brooklyn Technical HS and were Cheerleaders on the competition team, together. We had our daughters a year apart and our sons a month apart. We danced together, pregnant with our suns, at Tuskegee University and Brooklyn Academy of Music. We shared knowledge and a deeper friendship at the African Islamic Mission, where we both grew and matured as Muslim women. My homegirl for life! Thank you, Kibibi Oyo, for all the positive influence and inspiration you've given me all these years! Enjoy your month! And we need to do lunch sooner than later.

I would like you to give me your opinion on this statement above. Personally, I don't feel that Hip Hop ever died. However, Hip Hop lost it's Peace, Unity, Love and Fun element and forgot the true elements of the artform: MCs, DJs, (audio), dancers (movement) and graffiti artists (visual). I don't agree with the statement above.

I think Hip Hop took a downward spiral when 'rappers' started rhyming about the life they wanted to lead; the life of someone they know; when the music behind these rappers showed no depth, no musical cohesiveness and no ingenuity. The  decline in the art stems from rappers possessing NO control of the microphone, their lyrics don't excite the crowd and they need to rhyme over their voice tracks because they have no breath control nor the skills to rock live with only a background vocal/adlib track.

Another factor in this decline of the art is that everyone performs with a track, not a DJ. DJs don't even get love anymore. Hip Hop lost it's clothing style that made it comfortable for B-Boys and B-Girls to get busy on the dance floor and easier for graffiti artists to get on those rooftops and elevated trains to create inspiring visuals. Now everything is tight, from the skirts and tops to the saggy pants and the overall attitudes. This anger and tightness bears no reflection on the artist's skills, but it seems to elevate their status and fame, as well as their ego.

There's a lot of garbage rap out, compliments of corporations, (another debilitating factor for Hip Hop), and the people spitting it are young and from what I gather from their lyrics, dumb. They don't rhyme about their future; just growing up fast, living fast and being a good looking corps with props. Personally, I think finishing HS or college, starting a legal, entrepreneurial venture, raising your seeds and being proud to do it and NOT going to jail should be respected and prop-worthy.

If they thought like the previous generations of Hip Hop cultured heads, they'd know the full history of why, where and when Hip Hop emerged. I'm fully aware of why Hip Hop lives! I'm not alone in appreciating the pioneers, the innovators and the supporters as well as learning the history and living Hip Hop. That's my $.07, but I'd love for YOU to comment below with your thoughts. Thank you! And speaking of Real Hip Hop... I was proud to be a part of this epic showcase honoring and presenting women in Hip Hop.

This yearly event is a great testament to how Hip Hop is a social and political movement that can create change for the better. And it reaffirms the necessity and overwhelming talent of woman in Hip Hop.

I must get some Momma's Hip Hop Kitchen merchandise. I was so busy that day, I left without a tee shirt and a few buttons.

RAH DIGGA AND THE MAMA WIZE

Every year when Momma's Hip Hop Kitchen commences, it's the same day my daughter has my grandchildren's birthday party. The first saturday of March is always a special day in my home.

JAYLA'S THEME WAS FROZEN

JOHARI'S THEME WAS SPIDERMAN!

I'm especially excited because my grandchildren have made me proud since they've been on this earth. I'm amazed at what a great mother I've raised in my daughter, Tajh. She's doing better than me on every level when I was her age with two children. That is all I ever wanted: for my children to be better, smarter, more resilient and have/create more opportunities for themselves than I have. So far, so great! This year I turned 45 and I'm very proud of all the things I've accomplished in my life. I'm no where near finished. But this year is spiritually exciting because my grand daughter is 2 today, born on the Ides of March, and my grandsun turned 7. My birthday is 2/7. Their ages equal 9. The numbers of my age equal 9. In supreme mathematics, 9 is BORN! This year I will born several beautiful energies in visual, audible and written form. I'm ready...

I had the pleasure of attending another ThundaGround/Cajo Communications showcase with host Emmo Ogun and Respect Tha God on March 11th. I saw mad underground Hip Hop family from the 90's. And the show was dope.

Musically, the day was so dope and you can see video and pics of the day on my Instagram account. I had another great Friday the 13th!

Happy healthy blessed birthday love to my first grand daughter, Jayla Amanda! Today is March 15th! You are a bundle of joy and the smartest most articulate 2 year old I've ever met. And Glam Mama Loves you!

Everything I ever received in life was rightfully bestowed upon me. I've earned everything I've worked and fought for, including my intangible blessings and my physical, mental and emotional battle scars. At least I can say I did the work, my karma is in good standing and the pay offs keep coming. I'm still putting work in to my business, my health, my upcoming financial windfall and my spirituality. I'm continually building the strength to deal with all that life throws at me; even the stuff I'm not trying to catch, feel me?
