FEBRUARY - In My Perspective...

Peace and Blessings, My Readers!
I hope your month is going well so far.

This month has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I enjoyed my birthday and I felt great pride and the power of my people working together, learning and discovering our greatness. I'm in the process of expanding my company and I'm currently working the kinks out of a project that is long over due. Please remember...

Even though Black history month is in the shortest month...

I don't watch any awards shows, anymore. There's always something more interesting to do when they come on. But I heard that John Legend and Common made the mainstream movie world listen to the message of Selma and the institutionalized racism that still overtly exists in this country...  LOOK!  Honestly, I don't think the general public of the Oscar's will do anything about it, but they can't say they didn't know and they can't say they weren't told.

I am very disappointed that I see so many people arbitrarily beating on people, regardless of their color, and posting it online, like it's funny. I admit, I retweeted a beat down yesterday, but it was a short black girl and a white girl, arguing. The white girl said, "You this short, n%#@a!" And the shorter black girl commenced to whoopin her ass. Again, I don't condone violence but white folks need to know, using that word in any sense or context, is not appropriate for you to do. You have no idea how we, as black people, will absorb it. I suggest we all stop using the word, but that's just me. But for real, though...

WHY DON'T WE ALL TRY THIS?

We need to get ourselves together. We, as a people, seem to be caught up in social media drama, smart phone applications and reality television. The simpler life seems to be the healthier life.

* Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans.
* Drink more water and get a stainless steel container for it.
* Boil your water and stop buying it in plastic bottles.
* Exercise by doing calisthetics, weight lifting and walking.
* Be honest and speak with integrity and purpose.
* Drink herbal, decaffeinated teas.
* READ!!!!!
* Drink alcohol and smoke in moderation. (I know you won't stop!)
* Live true to you and dance free!...

I received a call from my homegirl, Krystine, on Friday, February 6th, asking if I'd gone to the hospital to see our mutual sister in dance, Marjory. I thought she was still in Honduras getting holistic treatment for her cancer. Krys told me she was at Sloan Kettering. I was quiet and got off the phone soon after.

(Point of Information: I had beef with this girl named Sabrina over a dude for over a decade, but we became cool when we talked on the phone and cleared up years of lies told. We made peace while she was at Sloan Kettering. I had planned on seeing her but she passed away before we could actually talk, face to face.)

I was not prepared to see Marjory and my birthday was the next day. I planned to go Sunday. But I thought about how many people would be at the hospital on 'rest day' and I stayed home. My homegirl, Afeni, called me Sunday and asked if I wanted to check Marj on Monday. We did. Marjory was up, laughing, talking, drinking tea, giving love and smiling. She was thin but she was beautiful Lotus, in face and energy. I enjoyed seeing her in good spirits and several people came up to see her while I was there.  I was told I came up on a good day where she was more vibrant than other days. That's that magic!! Nothing but love on that floor where her relatives, her husband, Jeff, dancer family and friends gathered.

I convinced Afeni to come with me to Meridian to see Evil Dee spin some Motown. She hadn't seen Evil in a minute and we both needed to get our heads right after seeing Marjory and all our old school dancer friends.

EVIL SAYING BYE TO LEESAH

After Evil tore down Meridian, Afeni went home and me and Leesah went to Mobile Mondays. It seemed the Mobile Mondays Crew was battling and ranking on each other over the mic. It was some kinda funny! I needed that!

My QueenSistah4Life, The CarmenB, took me to brunch for a belated birthday gift on February 12th. We always have a great time talking, laughing and doing what women need to do every once in a while: listen to each other. She went to the bathroom and by the time she came back I was in tears. I just found out that Marjory passed away hours ago. I was devastated and confused but totally in denial. I knew I'd run into her at the next party some time soon. I went home and got my thoughts together...

I went to support Buckshot's new sneaker brand, TRPL THREAT, at Roc N Sole sneaker shop on 492 Atlantic Avenue, a few blocks from Atlantic Terminal. I felt better seeing my people in the building and once the music started, I felt Marjory with me, finally pain free and dancing for Evil Dee, like back in the days when we used to frequent Joe's Pub on Sundays.

I saw Kimmy, my Brooklyn Tech alum, Dallas Penn, my brother from the African Islamic Mission, Jamaal, and my Duckdown - Broadcasting Live music family, Riz Da Great, DJ Lite, Buckshot and Evil Dee. I met others that kept me laughing and enjoying myself, like Buckshot's partner and the owner of Roc N Sole. Evil and DJ Logic were running through great records and occasionally scratching the shit out of them. Check my Instagram for the videos: themamawize. The following pictures are compliments of the photographer, Sun, another great Aquarian!

ALWAYS WORKING...

WE ARE OUTTA HERE! PEACE

When I left, I guess the crazy set in. Most people were going to a big party for All-Star Weekend, but I didn't know about it, so it wasn't happening. I do remember venturing out to a party after bringing Cynical her charger and chilling with her and Dee for a second. I don't remember the party I went to but I know I didn't stay long. That whole evening was a bit of a blur to me...

Friday the thirteenth, I spent the day working at Beatminerz Radio and later, waited for the bus in the cold so long, I took the first bus that came. I wound up at Frank's Lounge, downtown Brooklyn and I danced all night, almost blindly. Thank you, DJ Butch SOS, for the dancing. I needed that release...

Now, understand, I don't knock people for enjoying St Valentine's Day, I just can't do it. I'm a Steak and BJ girl, myself. That is why I placed the caption above where it is. It is what it is and I'm 100% with me and what I do. Some people are content with what I represent but they are not comfortable with the truth I show and prove. Handle it.

The story of St. Valentine's Day: St Valentine was a clergyman who could perform marriages, during the time of the ruler, Augustus Claudius. Augustus Claudius declared that marriage was forbidden. Claudius was an advocate of pedophilia and homosexuality. Several young girls were secretly married to their young male loves in the forest by St. Valentine. When it was found out that these forbidden marriages were being performed, St Valentine was killed and all the young husbands were hunted down and killed. The husband's hearts were removed from their bodies and delivered to the young wives in a box. The chocolates you buy for your sweetheart symbolize the coagulated blood of the dripping bloody hearts. Cupid's bow may be the symbol of the weapon used to kill the husbands.

The people I love are told they are loved, daily, because I am not promised tomorrow. St Valentine's Day is like Christmas, Easter, July 4th and Thanksgiving to me: deliberately concocted ways to make you spend money for what you are told is a good cause, cook for an army, and promote lies to make you think you should be proud to celebrate.

IJS

Believe That!

The last blog shows pics from The Delancey, where Da Beatminerz, DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt, were spinning and Jarobi was cooking. I finally met Sinnamon Love. It was great to meet this beautiful soul, in person. Everyone enjoyed themselves but I still needed to dance. Good times!

MR WALT * YEJIDE * THE BITO THUMB BY EVIL DEE

ME AND E! LOL

After Da Beatminerz got off the set, me and Leesah left with Mr. Bito. We went to Louie and Chan for a free party Leesah told us about. I think we stayed for 40 minutes before Bito drove us to Frank's and went home. Thank goodness, he arrived home safely in this weather. We danced until DJ Adam Scott decided he'd stop spinning House and Classics. Frank's normally stops the music at 4am, but Adam started playing slow jams at 4:15 and turned the music off about 5:50am. Thank you, Kalim for your comic relief.

Sunday, I chose to stay home and cook. I made turkey wings and dumplins, which is a combination I never made before. They were delicious! Coupled with buttered yams, a large salad with everything and my cranberry-blueberry-strawberry sauce.

I also cleaned some more vinyl and I'm down to this corner on the right and these two cases of 45's I picked up the summer of 2013 in Florida... Yes, I'm finally going to finish this vinyl project!

If you like the wooden shelves that are pictured here, let me know. I built this. Customization is available. This is $400.00!

My presence was requested for an open mic night on Tuesday, the 18th, at D Avenue Sports Bar at 673 Flatbush Avenue. I rocked with the DJ. My girl, Jewel, was there and she said I sounded great. I have a Dell while most DJs use MACs and it didn't help when my music was on a flash drive. But as a true MC, I can rock with a DJ, beatbox or band. The DJ was playing today's music but he provided me with a few classic joints, so I was good money. Someone taped me that night and I'd appreciate the footage, if you can get it, Dessa! Thank you for the opportunity. I enjoyed myself.

Wednesday, February 19th, I had to see Marjory for the last time - soul ascended and body at rest. I heard it was a reunion of the dance community and then some the day before but I did not intend to go to her 3-day wake when it was crowded with heads who needed the House community to see that they came out. I needed to go the day there was a celebration of her life, afterwards. I still think I'm going to see her in the club by chance. That's what our latest encounters were - running into each other and hugging and talking like we haven't seen each other in years, reminiscing about Japan and when we met at Manhattan Center in 1987. It hasn't set in that she won't be dancing with me, anymore...

I went to Marjory's celebration of life party at Santos and I saw so many of my people. Some I haven't seen in years, some I saw last week, but we were there in solidarity to celebrate and honor our girl. Many people just walked up on me, hugged me and started crying in my arms. It was so overwhelming but so necessary. I danced, I cried, I laughed, I danced and I danced some more. I usually take mad pictures but I needed to release. By the end of the night, my girl Kat came over and we got my man, Omar to take this pic...

FRIDAY AT BEATMINERZ RADIO - WE STAY WORKING!!!

After working throughout the day and listening to my Beatminerz Radio DJ family get busy, I left. Again the bus that takes me home took forever, so I hopped on the bus that came first, which took me to Frank's. I get there and see DJ Sylk. We were chilling and the crowd was wilding. Friday, downstairs at Frank's, is something else... Something other than Saturdays at Frank's, downstairs. But I spent my time avoiding thirsty eyes and sipping my Moscato. I was chillin upstairs listening to music and when it was time to go, DJ Sylk gave me a ride home, with Star and Joy, bartenders at Frank's.

BEATMINERZ RADIO HAS QUEENS WORKING!

Saturday, February 21st, my ass was back at Frank's for the United Spirits party every 3rd Saturday, upstairs. Terry Perkins, DJ Augie and DJ Butch SOS made my night. Between dancing, drinking mad water and cracking jokes, I had a ball. I left my house around 1am to deal with everything frozen and iced up.

Here's a Quickie! More later... I'm pressed for time, y'all...

Happy healthy February to all of my readers, family, supporters, friends and subscribers! It's Black History Month and I would honestly like to say, Thank You to you all. I remain a humble wordsmith when it cmes to these blogs because you take my opinion into consideration. I appreciate the fact that you read what's in my head and how I feel. If you ever want or need to comment, you can always do so here. I don't mind Tweets and Google+ love, either. I love it and I thank you.

I FORGOT TO INCLUDE THIS PICTURE ON MY LAST BLOG. MY GIRL FROM MILK AND HONEY PRODUCTIONS, MICHELLE @ THE DL FOR CRAZY LEGS BDAY PARTY!

After the Broadcasting Live mixtape album was released in December 2014, everyone involved was invited to Dragon's Lair Recording Studio for a meet and greet, so to speak, in January 2015. The only person who knew everyone was DJ Evil Dee. Many artists on the mixtape came through and celebrated the journey, met other artists and had a great night of talking, drinking and laughing.

Beautiful, Ladies!!!

As I'm celebrating this beautiful union, I hear a familiar voice yelling above me. As I turn to look up at this loud individual, I see that it's my homie for life, Jigga Jewel. She had been there since happy hour with her sweetie. Later on, I left with her to her friends Tiffany's birthday party a few blocks away. Tiffany answered the door in her own creation, which was so dope and fit her beautifully. She had a house full of  great looking women who came to celebrate her. The fellas came fashionably late.

Starting my birthday weekend off right by chilling with my family during the four hour long Beatminerz Radio broadcast, starting at noon. Then I'm going to celebrate my birthday with my brother, Mic Handz, who is having a celebration at Coco66 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with several dope artists coming through.

CRAZY LOVE TO MY PEOPLE WHO SHARE MY BIRTH STRONG OF FEBRUARY 7TH! - MIC HANDZ! JUDE ARTHUR! VIVIAN PEREZ! MAKEBA MOONCYCLE! (same year) and J DILLA (RIP)! CHRIS ROCK! GARTH BROOKS!

When I leave Coco66, I'm making my way to Frank's Lounge, where I will dance to House Music provided by Eman for the Run Bklyn party until about 5am. After that party, I will go to my breakfast spot across the street, Academy Diner, to enjoy my morning meal as an official 45 year old, before I go home.

When I go out on my birthday on February 7th, I will be going to the303 Louie and Chan to check... Wait! The flyer says it all!

Change of plans... It was too cold and icy to be doing all this traveling. I went to visit my people, first, in Brooklyn. Then I went to Frank's Lounge to enjoy my celebration with my Beatminerz Radio brother, DJ Sylk until 4am. Thanks for coming out, Gpos!!

After this party, I went to the After Party at 326 Butler Avenue until 8am, where my girl Deisi said she'd have birthday hugs and some empanadas for me! You should know The Empanada Lady, for real. But when I got there, the party vibration changed and the cost was $15 to enter. I think between Frank's, my people's rest and the after party, I walked 2 miles in the icy wind, back and forth. It actually felt fresh and crisp. I'm a native New Yorker!

I will continue to celebrate, learn and teach myself things I want to know, but I'm concentrating on this month and what I need to do, right now. My birthday celebration ends on March 16th. I celebrate my life, as well as my grandsuns, Feb 28th and my grand dawtahz, March 15th. My schedule changes constantly but I'm focused on a few things, in particular, including: Personal growth; Intellectual prowess; Less to no television; and honing all skills I know I have. These are my long term and short term goals. Time to really accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. Daily affirmations increases my self confidence and in New York City, you can't be a punk. I've never been a punk but reinforcement of the mental and spiritual goodness is key to excellence. Excellence leads to success and happiness! I'm ready for both!

Check out the new sales and contest questions for February at We ManifestThere are 2 questions this month. You can either win a 4oz jar of whatever you want in the Balance ~ Wearable Art inventory at Etsy, or you can win either a 12" single of Planet Rock by Soul Sonic Force or a 12" single of Funk You Up by The Sequence. Yes! I have that! :)

This month there are so many things going on, that this will be the absolute last month I promote like this. I'm still offering to promote events, products and services for $20, monthly. I use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and my blog to advertise your business, product or events. Give me a shout at: yejide7@gmail.com.
