Friday the 13th, was a trying day for me. Usually, I have a good time and get my way but I had to deal with the mold build up in my apartment that caused my Sun irreversible lung damage. He had surgery on Friday the 13th. The damage has been done and I'm smelling a law suit...
With my Sun in the hospital, I still had to maintain my home, make sure I was mentally, physically and spiritually fit to deal with whatever was to come. I don't ever want to see my Sun in the hospital because of circumstances beyond our control. This situation is so unnecessary, especially since we take such good care of ourselves.
Work continues... On Father's Day I went to check my Beatminerz Family for the Illegal Broadcasters show with co-hosts, General Steele and Hakim Green. Their special guest was Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97 fm. Some controversey had been brewing between him and Public Enemy's Chuck D after the BET Music Awards. I missed most of it but I did see Nikki Minaj and 50 Cent perform. I wasn't impressed. No matter. They still make their money and get airplay. My big question: Why didn't Nas close the show out, since we were celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Illmatic? That's just my $.07...

Happy Healthy Father's Day to all my brothers and sisters providing for their children! I wish the same for brothers and sisters on Mother's Day, so please don't get it twisted. There are just as many dead beat mothers as there are fathers. I know. I used to work for the Office of Child Support Enforcement. Any parent slacking in their duties of providing, nurturing, raising, sharing, loving and caring for their children should stop looking for accolades because you bought material things. The time you spend with your children is very important to their growth into healthy adults who contribute to their family, their community and our society. I'm off my soap box... I hope you all enjoyed your day!
I went to see my Sun after the Illegal Broadcasters, back in Brooklyn. He was in good spirits and we talked. I left a little bit more distraught because he wasn't coming home anytime soon. There was a festival going on in Park Slope, so I walked from the top to the bottom of the festival to get my head right before I went home.

Funny, I didn't notice it was the next day but Buckshot, Sean Price and DJ Evil Dee performed at Webster Hall Studio and it was a high energy showcase. We had mad fun backstage and during the show on stage. Buckshot and Sean Price did the damn thing and I was glad to be there to enjoy the mayhem they caused. Tek of Smif-n-Wessun came through, jumped on the back of the Sean Price and rocked with him. Matter of fact Sean Price's intro was DOPE, too!

Then the very next day, DJ Evil Dee's computer crashed and he called our mutual friend, KC, for assistance. KC had no idea I'd be at BMZ headquarters when he arrived. He fixed Evil's computer and we had great conversation. When Mr. Walt came downstairs, we all realized we knew the same people in middle and high school. It was trippy but you can't keep like-minded intelligent people away from each other for too long. Eventually we will meet up and build. Beatminerz DJs are mad funny! They need a comedy show!

I always enjoy my time with these brothers. I've known all of them since the early 90s except KC. I knew him since 1985 and I consider them all my family. When I say we go back, we go BACK!
My nephew Marquis had his little Marquis Jr, my grand nephew Jalani graduated from HS, and my grandsun graduated to 1st grade. So many monumental things going on with my family makes me very proud and keeps me lifted as my sun recovers his strength.
July 1st, DJ Evil Dee and DJ Butta L tore Sutra down! Tony Toca was in Miami rocking Toca Tuesday. I danced, took pics and chilled with my family. Thank you Tiffni, Sonja Blaze and Big Jeff! This was kinda last minute, so forgive me, friends and followers, for not letting you know ahead of time...

I was extremely happy and relieved to bring my Sun home on July 2nd. He's such a strong young man. I thank The Most High for my children all the time. They get on my nerves sometimes and I'm sure I get on theirs, but nobody's perfect. I wouldn't trade them for the world. I'm truly thankful and I know that I'm still blessed!
I stayed home to tend to paperwork, editing, creating and getting ready for the next phase of life. Everyday is new, so I must prepare for it. I stayed indoors to make sure my Sun didn't need anything. This was my first year missing the International Afrikan Arts Fest but I'll catch it next year. I only have one Sun. Home has always been my first priority.
July 8th was a whole heap of fun! DJ Esquire was spinning at his regularly scheduled set on the 2nd Tuesday at Von Bar in SoHo. His guest DJ was sameteam-mate DJ Evil Dee. They played that good shit! Esquire had me dying, going through his commercial phase but we laughed about it. DJ Esquire is another brother I must add to the Beatminerz Comedy Show!

July 11th, I was invited to the Feel Good Boat Ride in honor of Tony Toca's birthday celebration, featuring DJs Stretch Armstrong, Rich Medina, Tony Touch and last minute entry in for Clark Kent, DJ Evil Dee. I forgot how much I enjoy boat rides! I saw some great people on this trip and we had a blast. The music was funky from the beginning and the vibes were all love til the end!

Saturday, I had to stay home and tend to my home, my family and my sanity. I had a vending opportunity that I had to pass up. I was scheduled to sell my BALANCE ~ Wearable Art collection at Free Candy for "The Kinks Come Out at Night" event but I had a last minute emergency that could not be left to chance. Between paying for ish and waiting for other people's responses, I opted out. I'm about that home life, for real. Anything impeding on the well-being of it or it's inhabitants, has to be dealt with immediately. That's what responsible adults do! I apologize to all my followers, customers and especially Charles Anthony Davis. And again, thank you for the opportunity.
Working on Beatminerz Radio Blog, gardening, watching my babies grow - mine and my grands - and staying healthy, cooking and fighting my landlord seem to be all I've been doing even before my Sun was in the hospital. There's so much more that I'd like to put more time and effort into. There is so much more that I want to excel and grow in. Starting July 13th, I'm making that happen. I've been neglecting particular aspects of my life that not only make me happy but keep me in study mode. I love to learn! So, it's on...
Sunday, July 13, my Sista, StaHHr from the ATL, was in town and we made a great day of it. We met up at BAM and walked to Fort Greene Park for the Soul Summit Party. She's never experienced this epic event. I must admit, I've slacked on a couple of them. They are so few, nowadays, and they always happen when I have something to do, but the next one I will make sure I see everybody and dance somewhere. My knees will not permit me to dance on concrete anymore...

Then we hopped on another bus to meet up with John Robinson and his Queen, Corren, for dinner. A splendid meal of good for you, colorful, nutritious greens and starches were in my bowl and I'm mad I didn't ask for seconds.

We talked about everything including conspiracy theories, medicine, peyote and reality TV. I must visit more often. It's absolutely essential for me to build with intelligent visionaries like them.
