Peace and Blessings, Family!

Women's Herstory month ended with a Huge Bang! I'm so fortunate to have the friends I have and The Most High guiding my every step. I'll explain later how I know I'm blessed and highly favored. Right now, I'm just glad that my people, in and out of this blog, are who they are and do what they do. Everyone I interact with shows me something new and I appreciate the love and or understanding.

When I go out, most of the time I go out to dance. I don't dress in heels with make up and nails done because I go out to get it in. Music is my medicine, for real. I love to lose myself in the sound and spirit of the rhythm, so I follow DJs, now, not parties. But when I go to clubs and see a party goer making a request to the DJ, this picture comes to mind. I know the DJ can't do this but please, people, remember this image. LOL That's what you deserve when you interrupt the set of a dope DJ. I've seen it before and it's not cute.

Has anyone started this yet? Let's go, y'all!!!

Point of information: I have no reason to hate anyone. I know that people are individuals and we all have histories and circumstances. Some of us work through obstacles better than others. What I will not condone is people, celebrities or not, who try to disregard the Atlantic Slave Trade that plagued Africans for four centuries. I will not condone the tactic of 'turn the other cheek' by people of color who have fame, money and position in the media. I will not be down with forgetting it happened and keeping that history of barbariansm and hate from generations to come because they need to know why certain people feel how they do about black folks.

No on can tell impoverished, disenfranchised, hungry, homeless people of any color to embrace the powers that be that continue to criminalize and marginalize those same unfortunate people. I cannot agree with people who ignore institutionalized racism because they're in a higher tax bracket and it doesn't effect them, anymore. Africans and other enslaved peoples were never cured or even given a chance to recover from the psychological, intellectual, spiritual, economic or social stain created by institutionalized racism. (Hasidics are the only people to date, who received and continue to receive monies and benefits from the government.) Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Ahmadou Diallo, Eric Garner and Walter Scott are still fresh in the minds of our families and friends.

My mother and father are pro people and so am I, but we know and celebrate where we come from. I'm a human who loves humans. I'm an American because I was born here. But I will never disregard or downplay my African, Bajan, Trinidadian, Mohawk Indian, Black Irish, Portugese heritage. I will always be all that and so will my children and grand children. I saw the following picture online and I had to post it. After hearing Raven Simone, Common and reading what Pharrell said about the 'New Blacks', I felt compelled. I see all of this as disrespect to our Ancestors, not so much as defenders of the 'whiteyverse'...

On Wednesday, March 18th, we had a great time at Beatminerz Radio. Another musical and fun-filled day at the #HomeOfTheDJ!

Sunday 3-22-15, my sister, Ms. Tiffany Denise interviewed me on Bondfire Radio's talk show, Sweet Success Sundaes for Women's History Month. I appreciate the consideration and the love, Queen!

Monday, 3-23-15, I was welcomed by my sister, Kat of The KittyRose Lyfestyle, to her online talk show, The Movement, on Bushwick Radio. We covered the topic: How long should you wait to have sex? But it turned into an all inclusive, no holds barred conversation with DJ Primetime, Crazy DJ Bazarro, Brave Dave, Aleathia B., and call-ins talking about our experiences,  opinions and beliefs... It got a little juicy... LOL

THANK YOU, BRIAN COLEMAN, FOR THIS TREASURE OF HIP HOP INFORMATION!
IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS OR VOLUME 1, I SUGGEST YOU COP IT FAST!

By the time we left The Bell House, I was LIT! I'm not a drinker. I may be loud and insistent on what I want when I do it, but I do have sense about me. When the party ended, Nina left and Kimmy, Evil and I were going to catch a cab. As I said, I was LIT! It was freezing out but my purple NorthFace always keeps me warm. I figured I'd walk to Frank's Lounge to sober up. Now, mind you, it's 3:30am and the party at Frank's is supposed to end at 4am. But I know the staff at Frank's and I know the House party upstairs could go on until 5:30am to 6am.

I walked from Gowanus to downtown Brooklyn, 1.4 miles. I actually got there and made sure I let someone know I was safe. I left Frank's and noticed my bag, with my autographed copy of "Check The Technique Volume 2" was gone. I had a credit card and my expired ID in my pocket. DAMN! Everything else was in the bag. So I walked back to The Bell House. Yes, I walked back in the cold. I forgot it may be closed because I was intent on getting my bag back...

I guess I fell asleep on my way home because I woke up at 8am with a new Metrocard at Howard Beach on the A train. Uh... Why was I on the A train? How hard was I sleeping? Where the hell was my bag? The Most High truly carried me on my journey and led me home, safely. When I got home, I called Terry from Frank's who assured me that he had my bag. After assuring heads I reached safely the night before, I stuck it in my 'spot' in the back room, upstairs at Frank's. Whew! And I had no hangover.

The Most High was watching over me big time. Anything could have happened to me and it would have been my fault. As an adult, I must be more responsible and very much accountable for my actions. No matter who makes my drink, no matter how much I drink, it's on me to regulate myself and make sure I'm safe. At the end of the day, I have to depend on me. Everything in moderation, people. I cannot drink like people who drink a lot and I cannot drink like people who are bigger than me. My tolerance for liquor coupled with my petite frame ain't built for that. It's on me to make sure I carry out my missions with a clear mind and good intentions. And because that's me on the regular, The Most High took care of me, kept me safe and watched over my possessions. ALLAHU AKBAR!

Back to business... Sunday, March 29th, Evil Dee was spinning at Bushwick Radio and I was invited to come through, so I did. It was great to see Sara Ripp and a pleasure to meet the guests for the day.

SUNDAY CHILL CREW AT NEVA SAY NEVA!

Since I knew where my bag was, I went to Frank's after Bushwick Radio to retrieve it. I arrived about midnight and was treated to a few glasses of Moscato, great conversation and grooves on the Jukebox. A play let out from BAM and the cast of the play came into Frank's to enjoy themselves. Terry told me they've been coming in on Sunday's since the play started a month or two, ago.

MY MOSCATO and TERRY'S RED WINE
THANK YOU, JOY!

While talking and enjoying the jukebox choices, a truck pulled up in front of Frank's. I asked Terry what that was and he said the 'Shrimp Lady'. I laughed but Joy, the bartender, explained that she comes there often, with shrimp, fish, lobster and all kinds of seafood dishes for sale. Her truck was dope! She was not playing!

When she came in I order a shrimp cocktail. Joy recommended it. It was delicious and her cocktail sauce had a kick! I got her flyer and before she left, I ordered peppered shrimp. I didn't get to eat the peppered shrimp until the next day, but it was delicious! It tasted like she had some Scotch Bonnet Peppers in this here mixture and it was banging! I left all her info on my Instagram profile, but you can get it off the picture of her truck, above.

April Fools Day, I don't do. I wasn't born in April and I'm no fool. I don't play pranks or trick people on that day, either. But two of the most dependable men in my life are born in April, my father on the 23rd and my sun on the 17th. May The Most High bless them both. And at Beatminerz Radio, we had a full house of unexpected, out of town guest and a great time!

April 2nd, I spent a lot of my day cleaning. I know Spring is supposedly here so a cleansing is due. My Spring cleaning is thorough, so each piece of vinyl is still being cleaned and stocked, closets are being rearranged, windows are being cleaned, my terrace is getting an overhaul, my apartment needs to have it's space 'cleared and smudged', but that's last and has to happen when the grand babies are not home.

Saturday, April 3rd, Beatminerz Radio had it's "Str8 45s Day" and it was so dope! Mr Walt, DJ Get Live, DJ Mishigan and DJ Evil Dee were set to spin from noon until 8pm. Evil didn't feel good all day and declined to play the last set, so Mr. Walt gave us an encore performance, spinning more great music! I had no idea some of the joints played that day were even on 45! You know I brought snacks...

THE ENCORE PERFORMANCE FROM 6 - 8

DJ MISHIGAN and CYNICAL...GREAT PIC!

I don't celebrate Easter. As a member of the Bridge St AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church growing up, I wasn't a fan of the celebration. I just knew it was a day I saw church goers in their best clothes and after church, you either went to the movies or Coney Island. I was told it was a very religious day for Christians around the world; the resurrection of Christ. I'm not very religious; never been. I understand the significance to Christians, but as a Muslim, we don't believe Christ was crucified.

I've read the Torah, the Holy Bible and the Holy Quran and comparing notes, I find inconsistencies in many instances in many stories. I believe in The Most High! Call him or her what you will but I believe in ONE supreme omnipotent, force and that belief keeps my spirituality in tact and my knowledge of religion on point. I stopped going to congregational prayer when I saw the same hypocrisy in the Church and the Masjid. We are all human and we are not perfect. But I realized religion separates people and heads aren't ready to broaden their horizons when it comes to knowledge about the books they put so much faith in.

I'm not knocking either culture or their respective gospels. I just believe if you don't have a personal relationship with your higher power, you may as well be an atheist. Congregational prayer and the people in the congregation should not dictate, interpret, instruct or coax you into thinking what you read and hear is religious law. I see the miracles of The Most High, daily. I pray, I seek guidance and I build strength from what I believe. But please, enjoy the dress up, colored egg hunts, marshmallow bunnies, sugar-filled candy and sermons for the day... I commend your loyalty. Al Hamdullilah

April 5th, I did cook up a storm but that was because I was famished. I made mixed vegetables with citrus (vegan) ribs, with pineapples and mango. It was so delicious!
