Now understand, I had a catering gig in Teaneck, New Jersey prior, so the bus from Newark made sense. The catering gig was cancelled that morning but I still had a reservation from Newark to Cleveland. How tight was I that I spent money and time traveling to Newark when I could have caught the bus in New York? On the line waiting for the bus to arrive, I was informed that the lines are in number order: boarding #s 1-10, 11-20, etc. I was in the 11-20 because my boarding # was 13. I asked the woman right behind me 4 times, "Excuse me, Ma'am, what is your boarding number?" She not only refused to answer me but she looked through me like I wasn't there. The people in the line for boarding #s 1-10 were like, 'what's wrong with her?'
We finally boarded the bus at 10:10 and it was jam-packed to capacity. I had no room to move or open my notebook, write anything or get comfortable. So I listened to music the whole ride, thank goodness! Regular pit stops at anybody's McDonalds where I got water and later on coffee. Thank goodness I packed a fruit salad of McIntosh apples, navel oranges, avocados & strawberries!
All the things paperwork related I set out to accomplish were all for naught, but the real mission was to do my sun's hair. That mission would be completed. I reached Cleveland at 6:50am and took out $100 from the ATM, just in case. I've done this travel to college thing, before... As the sun rose, I caught the half crescent moon but moving in a bus, this is what I got...
My $65 cab to Oberlin College from Cleveland Greyhound station was about 45 minutes long. I saw my baby boy! He's so handsome! Only for my children will I travel the country and pay any amount to get to them to provide whatever it is they need. I'm a REAL parent! This is what I do! I did his hair in record time and noticed he was crazy tired. I was done and I didn't sleep as of yet, but I had no intention of chilling with him. I told him to take a nap and finish his final projects, later. His hair was wet so he couldn't walk me outside but that was cool. My $50 cab to Cleveland Airport took about 35 minutes to get me there. Now I got a reservation for a flight back home because I wasn't going to ride another bus for 10 hours again. My flight was scheduled for 3:40pm to Philadelphia, with a 2.5 hour layover and a return trip to Laguardia Airport by 9pm. I caught the 11:30am plane to Philadelphia.
By 1pm, I couldn't get a connecting flight until my regular connecting flight, which was at 7:30pm. My choices: wait 6 hours for the first connecting flight or pay $75 for a flight time change. I chose to catch the airport train to the SEPTA train at Terminal F, which took me to 30th St in Philadelphia. There I caught some train that would take me to Trenton. Problem? Of course. The station had no power! Check my posts on 'Vine' where you see the dark station with no power (to charge my dying phone). No ticket sales available, so I paid $7 for the ticket on the train. Then, I caught the New Jersey Transit Commuter Rail to New York Penn Station, for another $15.50. I'm not going to mention how much the Greyhound bus trip or the plane ride cost for the day. WHEW!
I traveled from the Northeast to the Midwest to the Atlantic coastline and back to the Northeast in about 24 hours. I recorded and posted several places I was for the day on my Vine, Instagram and Twitter. It's hilarious now, but the constant movement to get home was crazy and not cool! I was on a plane, the subway, a couple of commuter rails, a bus and a few cabs, but I got home safe and feeling like the bomb parent! And it was worth it! A great friend of mine orchestrated my journey home and made me feel better about and throughout the whole day. Thank you, love! And my daughter made dinner. I love my children! And somebody owes me a bottle for Cinco de Mayo!!! ;)
When you instill the right values in your children, they can't do wrong because they know better and they wouldn't want to let you down by not using what you gave them. Anyhoo, besides my Sun graduating from Oberlin on Memorial Day, there's a lot going on in May!
AND ENJOY THESE BROOKLYN FESTIVITIES!!!!!
